Home renovation and garden design in Italy

Your home in Italy, designed around the way you live

A second home, an apartment to renovate or a villa with a garden to rediscover. BIOMA offers complete or focused design across Italy, bringing architecture, interiors and landscape together. Meetings and project documentation are available in English.

The starting question

A second home needs to work between visits, too

How often will you visit? Which seasons matter most? Who will care for the garden when you are away? Whether you call it a holiday home or a vacation home, its pattern of use guides materials, planting and care requirements.

For a property combining personal use and holiday rental, we consider guest privacy, secure owner storage, flexible rooms and durable finishes that can be cared for between stays.

What we design

01

Home renovation

We rethink houses, apartments and villas around daily routines, light, privacy and the character of the existing building. The commission can address the whole home or a defined part of it, with priorities and design stages established together.

02

Interior design

Layouts, materials, lighting and furniture shape how a home feels and works. We consider their relationship with the building, the landscape and the way you plan to use the property.

03

Mediterranean gardens and terraces

Our garden design responds to climate, soil, water and the way you use outdoor spaces. In Mediterranean settings, we consider drought-tolerant planting, summer shade, seasonal interest and water-conscious design. Plant selection, establishment watering and a realistic care plan help you understand what the garden needs while you are abroad.

Materials, resources and living systems

Sustainable choices, rooted in the property

We begin with what deserves to be retained: a building’s character, useful materials, mature trees or a connection to the landscape. Sustainable design considers reuse, daylight, summer shade, durability and care. Biophilic design connects everyday life with nature. Where soil, water and vegetation are involved, regenerative intentions guide opportunities to support biodiversity, with objectives to be checked over time.

A proportionate process

Working together while you are abroad

BIOMA is based near Rome and works throughout Italy. You work directly with Stefano Bocci, an English-speaking architect, on your home renovation in Italy. Meetings and project documentation are available in English.

After a conversation about your property and priorities, we agree whether a site visit or a paid consultation would be useful before defining the design commission. The proposal sets out stages, deliverables, fees and responsibilities, including any technical services or specialist input.

Questions about your project in Italy

01Can you design a home for both personal use and holiday rental?

Yes. We discuss how you and your guests will use the property, then consider layouts, privacy, owner storage, durable materials and ease of care. The design scope is agreed around the property and your priorities; rental management and booking services are not part of this design commission.

02Can you design a Mediterranean garden while we live abroad?

Yes. We can develop a garden design commission with meetings and documentation in English. Planting responds to the local climate, soil and exposure. We discuss water availability, establishment watering and maintenance arrangements, including who will care for the garden between your visits.

03Can we speak before we complete the purchase?

Yes. If you have identified a property, you can contact us to discuss the changes you have in mind. Tell us where you are in the purchase process and share any available plans or photographs. We will explain what information is needed to define a useful next step.

04Can you design only the interiors or the garden?

Yes. The commission can focus on selected rooms, interiors, a garden or a terrace, or bring the whole property together. We agree a scope that fits your priorities and the nature of the project.

05Can we work together in English?

Yes. Meetings and project documentation can be provided in English. You can explain your priorities and discuss design decisions directly with us.

06How are the design fees established?

We prepare a proposal based on the scope and complexity of the work. It identifies the design stages, deliverables and professional fees. The construction or garden implementation budget is considered separately.

07What happens after the first conversation?

We agree the most useful next step. This may be a site visit, a paid consultation or a proposal for the design work. Any fee for that next step is explained before you decide to proceed.
