Containers, seating and planting respond to sun, wind, privacy and everyday use. Any necessary structural or technical checks are identified and scoped with the relevant specialists.
Planting design
A focused commission can rethink borders or the planting of an existing garden. We consider what to retain, seasonal interest, growth and the care available over time.
Mediterranean gardens and water-conscious design
Garden design begins with the local climate, soil, exposure and water availability. In Mediterranean settings, drought-tolerant planting, shade and soil cover can inform a lower-water approach. Establishment watering and seasonal care remain part of the brief, even when mature plants tolerate dry conditions.
A garden that works between visits
For a second home or holiday rental, we discuss who will care for the garden while you are abroad. Plant choices, growth, access and maintenance tasks respond to the level of care you can organise. Low-maintenance garden design means planning manageable work, with realistic expectations across the seasons.
Working with BIOMA from abroad
Based in Albano Laziale near Rome, we work throughout Italy. Stefano Bocci is your architect and garden designer, with meetings and documentation available in English. After a conversation, we agree whether a site visit or paid consultation would be useful. The design proposal specifies stages, plans, planting schedules, fees and any specialist contributions or site supervision included.
Before you begin
Can you design only the garden or terrace?
Yes. A commission can cover the whole garden, a terrace or selected planting areas. It can be independent of a home renovation, while considering connections with the building.
Can we keep existing trees and planting?
We begin by assessing what is there and what can contribute to the future garden. Where tree condition or safety requires specialist assessment, this is identified separately in the scope.
How are garden design fees calculated?
Fees reflect the scale, complexity and agreed deliverables. We prepare a proposal after discussing the property. Design fees are separate from the budget for plants, construction and installation.
Can a Mediterranean garden need no irrigation?
This depends on climate, soil, plants and the intended result. Even drought-tolerant plants may need establishment watering. We assess the conditions before proposing an appropriate water strategy.
