What this project illustrates

Public space design: connecting access points, levels, shade and places to pause. Urban regeneration describes the intervention’s field; it does not by itself certify a measured ecological benefit.

01 / THE PROJECT

Connecting movement to give space back to public life

Piazza GC sits within a compact urban fabric, between existing buildings and routes that cross the space in several directions.

The project turns these movements into a legible structure. The ground guides people, trees create shade, seating introduces pauses and planting makes the edges more welcoming.

02 / READING THE PLACE

Before drawing the square, we listened to its movements

Access points, changes in level, built frontages and existing activities already defined a network of movement. The project makes it visible without making it rigid.

The centre remains open and recognisable, while trees, pergolas, seating and planted beds create more sheltered places along the edges.

A new continuity between people and neighbourhood, not an isolated object

03 / DESIGN CHOICES

Each element guides, protects and invites people to pause

Ground, shade and planting work as one system to support movement, climate comfort, different uses and a changing daily identity.

  1. 01
Routes converge without obstructing one another

Paving bands collect the different access points and lead them towards the centre.

  2. 02
    Shade defines places

Trees and pergolas protect seating, support commercial activity and make the square usable during warmer hours.

  3. 03
    Planted edges, not enclosures

Shrubs, perennials and flowering plants add depth and biodiversity without closing the square.

  4. 04
    Seating within the design

The position and direction of benches allow people to sit alone, observe or meet.

04 / INHABITING PUBLIC SPACE

Public space becomes part of everyday life again

Crossing, waiting, meeting, sitting in the shade or pausing near local activity can coexist. The project does not prescribe a single use. It prepares different conditions for the community to inhabit over time.
