01 / THE PROJECT
An enclosed setting that does not interrupt the continuity of the place
BIOMA Shelter is an independent biophilic system for offices, stations, hospitals, libraries, universities, hotels and large waiting areas. In these places, noise, movement and prolonged stays can make it harder to focus, find direction or recover energy.
The project introduces a condition between openness and protection. A clear threshold invites people in, the planted and acoustic edge reduces stimuli, and openings keep the surrounding context visible.
02 / READING THE PLACE
A permeable edge creates calm, orientation and control
The curved form creates a recognisable and permeable boundary. It guides entry, filters lateral movement and preserves enough visibility to remain oriented and part of the wider space.
Planting, diffuse light, natural materials and sound absorbing surfaces work together. Water, tactile elements, information, wayfinding and scent diffusion can be added when the setting and maintenance plan support them.

03 / DESIGN CHOICES
Each element reduces sensory pressure and restores choice
The system combines spatial, sensory and inclusive principles in a structure that can adapt to different places, lengths of stay and user profiles.

The entrance is immediately recognisable and remains connected to circulation and surrounding activity.

Planting and acoustic surfaces reduce exposure without creating complete isolation.

Openings maintain views of the context and allow each person to choose how protected they want to feel.

Dimensions, seating, planting density and degree of enclosure can change in response to place and use.




04 / MAKING A PAUSE POSSIBLE
People should be able to regulate their experience in shared spaces
BIOMA Shelter translates research on biophilia, neurodiversity and high intensity environments into a visible and non-stigmatising place. It does not separate people from the setting. It offers another way to remain within it.
